About The Bund 8 外滩8号

Nestled in the heart of San Gabriel at 218 S San Gabriel Blvd, The Bund 8 外滩8号 invites diners to explore the culinary traditions of Shanghai through a menu that balances heritage and innovation. As a cornerstone of Shanghainese cuisine in Los Angeles County, this restaurant masterfully bridges time-honored recipes with contemporary techniques, offering dishes that resonate with both nostalgia and creativity. From the delicate folds of their xiaolongbao to the rich, caramelized depths of braised pork belly, each plate reflects a commitment to authenticity and craftsmanship. The space itself—spacious, brightly lit, and welcoming—creates an ideal setting for gatherings, whether casual family meals or celebratory feasts, while the attentive service ensures a seamless dining experience.

At the core of The Bund 8’s philosophy is an unwavering dedication to quality ingredients. Traditional Shanghainese staples like pan-fried pork bao and scallion noodles showcase the kitchen’s precision, with flavors that strike a harmonious balance between sweet, savory, and umami. The Shanghai roasted duck, a standout dish, exemplifies this approach, featuring crispy skin and tender meat that pairs perfectly with house-made dipping sauces. For those seeking lighter fare, the taro with white fungus dessert offers a refreshing finish, blending subtle sweetness with textural contrast. While the menu honors classics, subtle modern twists—such as updated presentations or ingredient pairings—cater to diverse palates, making it equally appealing to purists and adventurous eaters alike.

Beyond its culinary offerings, The Bund 8 distinguishes itself through accessibility and versatility. The restaurant accommodates both dine-in patrons and takeaway orders, ensuring that its flavors reach customers wherever they prefer to enjoy them. Group-friendly seating arrangements and efficient service make it a practical choice for everything from weekday lunches to weekend celebrations. Though the ambiance leans casual, the attention to detail in dish preparation elevates the experience, positioning The Bund 8 as a destination for those seeking authenticity without pretense.

While the focus remains firmly on Shanghainese traditions, the restaurant’s broader categorization as an Asian fusion establishment hints at its ability to adapt and innovate. This flexibility allows The Bund 8 to appeal to a wide audience, including those exploring regional Chinese cuisines or Asian-inspired flavors. The inclusion of Cantonese influences and takeaway options further broadens its reach, ensuring that even the most time-strapped diners can savor its offerings.

Practical considerations, such as the central San Gabriel location and contact number (+1 626-877-7666), underscore the restaurant’s commitment to convenience. However, it’s the culinary execution that leaves a lasting impression—dishes like the braised pork belly, with its melt-in-the-mouth texture and expertly balanced sauce, or the xiaolongbao, bursting with savory broth, demonstrate why The Bund 8 has become a local favorite. Minor critiques, such as occasional feedback about facility upkeep, pale in comparison to the consistent praise for flavor and value, solidifying its reputation as a must-visit for Chinese cuisine enthusiasts.

Ultimately, The Bund 8 外滩8号 thrives by honoring its roots while embracing the evolving tastes of its community. It’s a place where tradition meets modernity, where every bite tells a story of Shanghai’s culinary heritage, and where the warmth of hospitality turns meals into memories. Whether you’re a longtime admirer of Shanghainese fare or a curious newcomer, this restaurant promises an experience that’s as enriching as it is delicious.

A Hidden Gem for Authentic Shanghai Cuisine! The Bund 8 is easily one of the best Chinese restaurants in Southern California and one of the most authentic Shanghai restaurants I've visited outside of China. If you're searching for authentic Chinese food, Shanghai cuisine, soup dumplings (Xiao Long Bao), or the best dumplings in town, this place absolutely delivers. Every dish we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The standout items were the Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings) and Sheng Jian Bao (Shanghai pan-fried pork buns). The soup dumplings were packed with rich broth and perfectly seasoned pork filling, while the Sheng Jian Bao had a crispy golden bottom with a juicy, savory center. These are some of the best dumplings I've had anywhere in California. What makes The Bund 8 special is that it offers authentic Shanghai food that is approachable even for first-time visitors. If you're used to American Chinese food and want to explore traditional Chinese cuisine, this is the perfect place to start. The service was friendly and helpful, especially when explaining menu items that may be unfamiliar to non-Chinese guests. Whether you're looking for authentic Shan

Shanghainese food was exceptional. We went for a tasting and we're pleased with the food. We started out with appetizers. Marinated layered bean curd, smoked fish, marinated beans, cold drunkened chicken, jellyfish with cucumbers, sweet bbq pork ribs, and ham cuts with vinegar/ginger dip. The appetizers were all exceptional with a flavor of is own. Dinner consisted of herbal chicked soup, crab with rice cakes in wine sauce, sweet and sour rock cod, smoked duck, beef ribs, steamed eggs with clams, stir fried shrimp and for dessert: black sesame

After last night, The Bund 8 has become one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in L.A.! I discovered this restaurant while searching for Crab Roe dishes in LA and it seemed to be the only place that was reliably recommended. The Crab Roe tofu was so flavorful, savory and genuinely addicting. I will absolutely be coming back for this dish. We also ordered the Shanghai Fried Shrimp, which was crunchy and lightly sweet. Another standout and must have. The stir fried rice cakes were delicious, and so were the snow pea tips. The roast duck was good. Not overly oily, but not their main export from what I could tell. It was very well served. Thick pieces of meat. Overall, none of the dishes felt heavy or greasy. It’s very clear whoever is in the kitchen loves to cook. You could tell their heart was in it. I will definitely come back to try other dishes. :)

My former work mom brought me here for lunch. She and her husband are fantastic chefs so I would follow them anywhere because it’s always good. I am trying to understand how anyone could give this place low ratings. This is typical Shanghai food and Shanghai is one of the top food cities in the world in my opinion. The chefs in this kitchen have incredible wok skills and an extremely hot stove. I can’t remember the last time I had string beans this crisp. Same for the shrimp - perfect texture. The eggplant had a crisp skin and soft center. The braised pork you could tell was cooked for a while because the sauce was reduced nicely. The dishes were all simple but cooked to perfection. The flavors were all distinct and delicious. For weekday lunch they have specials. I can’t wait to come back and try other dishes
